How to Repair a Sluggish PC
Poor performing computers are difficult to work with. People lose their patience having to wait for a sluggish computer to start up before using any program. It also seems like it’s taking forever to shutdown.
If your computer is having these symptoms, it may be time to do something about it. There could be any number of possible reasons for your computer to run poorly.
A computer may not have enough RAM or Random Access Memory to handle all the opened programs running at the same time. Running fewer programs can easily solve this one possible cause. If there’s still slots left on the motherboard and the computer’s RAM limit hasn’t been reach, purchasing and installing additional RAM chips will help.
Too many programs may have been installed and later uninstalled on the computer. When that happens, the registry — the part of the operating system that stores the settings of the various programs — becomes bloated with files no longer needed, but which the Windows operating system still reads at start up and shutdown.
Program such as Error Smart, RegCure and Registry Easy can scan and report the errors and unnecessary files causing the sluggish performance of a Windows operating system based computer. These registry cleaners or registry repair applications can also back up the registry and automatically remove the unnecessary files and repair the registry.
Defective or damaged hardware components may also cause computer performance issues. A bad motherboard for example will need to be repaired or replaced. However, the low prices of some newer model PCs or laptops may make buying a new system more attractive.
