Where To Place Adverts On Your Website

If you have been looking at selling advertising space on your website, then you have already asked yourself a number of questions regarding the placement of ads.

As an advertising sales consultancy, we are always asked questions like how do i get ads on my website and how do I make internet advertising revenue from my site.

These questions are quickly followed by ones relating to the positioning and the correct formats to use.

If there is one thing to point out, you must always remember that your site should be for your visitors first and then your advertisers second. If you can come up with a great site for both parties then you should be onto a winner.

If you decide to place ads on your site, then you need to know where the best places are to do this. You can always change the ad positions later, but the proof is in the testing.

When you have a central text and image area for your page, try to work ads around the main focus points on your pages. You don’t want the ads to stick out too much but you also don’t want them to be hidden either. A good compromise is to position a few text line ads within your main text and then place a few image and text ads at the top, bottom, left and right hand sides of your page. You should always mix these up as image and text ads to see what works best.

Remember, a flashy image ad doesn’t always work best, so make sure you try many different ads before you decide on the right format, layout and structure for your pages.

When you tried different ads, only place them on page with relevant content and thise where you are NOT trying to sell something else. There is very little point placing ads where you want to sell something to visitors, so don’t bother placing ads on those pages at all.

Always monitor and track the click through rates to different ads and then come up with a good way of reporting the results to advertisers. If you need to give away ads to build credibility then do it. But don’t go over the top and give too much away too early.

Many of the ads for my website businesses are simple and match the colour scheme of the relevant site. I always find this works, so do bear this in mind when coming up with ad designs for your client.
